Short-term counselling for difficulties related to work
Work occupies a huge space in many people’s lives, shaping identity, representing success or status in the world, enabling or constricting life and relationships. Things don’t always go well, particularly in this stretched economic climate, and things can change suddenly. If are struggling with a work-related difficulty, or if you are unexpectedly unable to work at all, you may need some focused support with this.
I offer sessions for immediate work-related difficulties, over 12 focussed weekly sessions. Here are some examples of situations where short-term counselling may be helpful:
Difficulties in an ongoing job
If the balance between your work and life feels wrong, and work feels unsatisfactory, stressful, or insecure, it will undermine your sense of well-being. You may feel trapped in a cycle of reacting to events, rather than making choices, with a never-ending list of things to do, or feel bullied by a boss or by colleagues. It may be hard to remember when you last felt happy or relaxed, and your relationships and health may be suffering too. If you are wondering how to cope or if change is possible, we can explore this together.
When you are no longer working
Alternatively, you may be facing a break from work that has not been your choice. Maybe your job has been terminated, suspended, or you are ill. Sometimes the stoppage has been sudden, without an opportunity to say goodbye or talk freely to colleagues and friends. Some work endings can feel bewildering, unfair, unkind, or simply have happened before a person is ready to leave. If you are unexpectedly facing very different life, with a mixture of feelings and anxieties, it may help you to have a safe space to make sense of things.
